After unearthing an original 1959 sunburst D’Angelico, the reissue soon followed. The EX-59 is the perfect companion to the traditional D’Angelico humbucking pickup-equipped archtop and offers that legendary D’Angelico warmth but with a unique edge. Its P-90 pickups provide just the right amount of bite to give your sound some attitude if you want to push it hard. It’s no surprise blues icon Robert Randolph has adopted the EX-59 as his guitar of choice. Staying true to the D’Angelico legacy, the EX-59 exudes elegance. The distinctive headstock with a mother-of-pearl Excel inlay and Art Deco truss rod cover, mother-of-pearl square block inlays, carved top and back, Gold Grover Super Rotomatic stairstep tuners, chicken-head three-way pickup position switch, and ’50s retro-vibe volume and tone knobs add that timeless D’Angelico touch. The EX-59’s gorgeous light faded cherry sunburst finish over its laminated flame maple top and back is accentuated by the absence of a pickguard—a design element carried over from the original.
